Beach Wedding Setting at Layan Beach, Phuket
Question
Hello
My partner and I are getting married in Phuket, in March 2014 and we are unsure where would be suitable.
We want our wedding to be on a cheap budget but still stunning and private.
We would also like the ceremony to be relaxing with say a dozen guests.
We would like a quick ceremony and then be able to walk back to an attractive bar, pool area.
Our guests will be staying at the same hotel or resort on the night of our wedding.
We wish to be able to provide food for our guests but nothing too expensive; being a chef I would like it to be good honest modern, traditional Thai food and drink.
The day before our wedding we would like all of us to do something fun and adventurous together, that is close to the hotel or resort, so surrounding facilities are important also.
Vanessa and myself are going to Phuket in March 2013 for 10 days..whoa!
While we are there we will check out some sites and sort this all out.
If you have any tips or ideas it would be appreciated.
We understand an organiser would be the help we may need, but I'm thinking of the cost of that too.
Thank you
Answer
Congratulations Paul and Vanessa,
We hope you both enjoy your pre wedding holiday in Phuket…
I am unsure if you are planning on having a legal marriage in Thailand, or if you are getting married in Australia before having the wedding ceremony and celebrations in Phuket.
The reason I mention this is that if you would like to be legally married in Thailand there is a certain amount of paperwork required to make it official.
You would have to have the marriage registered in Thailand which usually requires paperwork to be completed in Bangkok.
If you and Vanessa have a legal ceremony in Australia beforehand you won’t need to worry about these formalities in Thailand.
As for the venue, there are many beautiful locations in Phuket and the hardest decision is choosing which location suits you best.
The weather in Phuket in March is usually very good, as a suggestion I would look at having your wedding on one of the quieter beaches in Phuket.
The most visited beaches in Phuket are Patong, Karon or Kata Beaches, whilst they are all great locations they can be very busy and for a wedding I am sure that you and Vanessa would prefer a setting which is more romantic and private.
A couple of top spots that come to mind that you might like to check out while you are in Phuket are Yanui Beach on the southern tip of Phuket or Ao Yon beach on the south east coast.
Along the North West coast, there are also some lovely beaches, such as Layan Beach, Nai Thon Beach or Nai Yang Beach.
There are many resorts throughout Phuket that offer wedding packages, either on the beach in front of the resort or within the grounds of the resort.
The resorts usually have their own team of wedding planners that will assist you with organising your wedding; the prices will vary depending on the resort that you choose.
Below are just a few suggestions; however you will need to contact the resorts to find out the price of their wedding packages and what the package includes.
Some of the resorts do have prices on their websites, but you would be best to email them or pop in and see them while you are there and go over your requirements to get an exact price.
Meals are usually not included in the wedding package prices but they can be arranged by your chosen resort at an extra cost.
When you are in Phuket you might want to check out a couple of the resorts that we think would be fantastic settings for your wedding day in Phuket.
The Merlin Beach Resort on Tri Trang Beach
The Katathani Beach Resort at Kata Noi
The Dusit Thani Laguna Resort on Bang Tao Beach
Alternatively it would probably be cheaper for you to book you and your guests into a resort that best suits your budget, and independently organise to have your wedding ceremony on one of the beaches in Phuket.
This option may work out much cheaper than paying a resort to organise it for you.
Naturally you will still require someone to help you organise the finer details, such as a wedding celebrant, photographer, flowers, etc.
We can assist you by putting you in touch with a reputable wedding planner that has been organising affordable destination weddings in Phuket for many years.
He will be more than happy to send you and Vanessa a breakdown of costs and answer any questions that you may have about the weddings that he plans; he can also provide you with information about what type of meals they provide as well as being able to assist you if you want to be legally married in Thailand.
Most of the wedding packages can be altered to suit your needs.
If you would like more information or would just like to have a chat to him about what you would like, just fill out the contact form on one of our wedding package pages and he will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have and be able to suggest some ideas to fit your budget.
There are loads of fun and adventurous things to do in Phuket, but as you are travelling with a group of family and friends I would suggest chartering a private speedboat to explore one or two of the offshore islands where you can go snorkeling or a day trip to Phang Nga Bay.
As with transport most tours will usually include transfers to and from your resort.
We hope this information helps you and Vanessa choose a fantastic destination for your wedding in Phuket in March 2014.
Once again congratulations and we wish you and Vanessa all the best.
