A NEW air tour service has begun flying around the Greater Phuket region, with a base at Krabi International Airport.
Tourists looking for a whirl around the region's prime tourist destinations can gain a bird's eye perspective from a light plane flown by Ao Nang Travel and Tours.
Manager and part-owner Somkiert Subhe says the flights began on february 15 and the reactions so far have been good.
''We do four tours at different prices over the most popular tourist sites in the region,'' he said. ''If tourists wish, they can fly around Thailand with us, or go to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
''If someone missed a flight for and important trip, we could help them catch up.''
The fliers operate three light planes: a two passenger Cessna 172, a Piper Seneca II that seats three or four, and a Diamond DA42 with space for two.
The 45-minute flight takes in Ao Krabi, Ao Nang, Tela Wave beach, Koh Poda and Nopparat Thara. It costs 9500 baht per person.
Tour Two takes in Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi lei, Tela Wave beach, and Koh Kai, 65 minutes at a cost of 10,950 baht.
Tour Three flies over Phuket, looking at Surin, Patong, Karon and Kata, 65 minutes at 13,350 baht.
Tour Four heads to James Bond island and flies around Phang Nga Bay, 12,350 baht for 65 minutes.
To rent, the aircraft could cost between 25,000 baht and 50,000 baht a day, depending on destinations and air time.
''It's another choice for tourists or those who want to go somewhere quickly,'' Khun Somkiert said.
