Saturday, 26th December Patong beach was covered in candles as sky lanterns were let go to mark the fifth anniversary of the 2004 tsunami. There were around 800 people from all nationalities gathered in Patong for services and prayers.

What’s on in Phuket in January

For boating enthusiast the Phuket International Boat Show is held from the 7th to the 10th of January 2010 at the Royal Phuket Marina Exhibition and Conference centre with 45 yachts in the water display.

Kamala Festival is held from the 8th to the 10th of January, activities include a fishing and casting contest, mountain bike race, football competition, light and sound show and performances.

January may see the opening of Phuket’s first theme park, the latest attraction to Phuket. Splash Jungle Water Park will include an array of waterslides, a wave pool and seven mini parks.
