What’s On in Phuket in October 2010

October is fantastic time to be visiting Phuket, not only is there some great hotel deals still available, one of Phuket’s biggest celebrations is taking place from the 8th – 16th October.

The annual Phuket Vegetarian Festival is a colourful event that is held over nine days. The festival mainly takes place around Phuket Town and the Chinese shrines in Phuket. A must see is the amazing street processions, which kick off around 7am. Try not to cringe as devotees walk barefoot over hot coals, climb ladders with razor-sharp rungs or by piercing different parts of their bodies with iron needles and sharp blades.

Local residents with Chinese ancestry observe a strict vegetarian or vegan diet, aiming to cleanse their spirit. If you are in Phuket during this time ensure you take time out to enjoy the festivities.

On the 16th October the 3rd annual Phuket Surf Lifesaving Carnival will be held at Loma Park in Patong. The carnival will include popular events such as the surf races, board races, tube races, iron man and woman, beach sprints, beach relay, beach flags and a 2km beach run. Last year's carnival included a total of 68 competitors and 125 participants and supporters.

The carnival is organized by the Phuket Lifeguard Club, which is committed to providing and improving beach safety for the local community and for the visitors who also enjoy the waters off Phuket.

Keep a look out for cheap flights to Phuket if you do a bit of research you will find there are many budget airlines offering great deals at the moment.
