Hello and welcome to this issue of Phuket Travel Secrets monthly e-zine

What a fantastic time to be heading to Phuket for your well deserved holiday vacation, the weather is great, the seas are calm and the resorts and hotels are offering some great deals on room rates.

When searching for the best room rates for resorts and hotels in and around Phuket we find that by using Agoda, we are able to find lots of great deals.

The prices are much cheaper then booking through a travel agent and are at times cheaper then booking through the resorts or hotels direct.

We book all our own accommodation through Agoda and can say that we have never had any problems with our accommodation and on most occasions we are upgraded to a better room without even asking.

Here are just a few special offers that are available at the moment.

The Coral Island Resort at Coral Island has fantastic room rates of just 1,275 Baht, which is equivalent to AUS$41.00 a night including breakfast for two people. This room is normally priced at 3,678 baht a night.

For a limited time only there is great offers available at the Talay Karon Beach Resort, a fantastic resort for family vacations in Phuket, with two bedroom suites available.

There is super low rates at the Nai Yang Beach Resort, with up to 48% discount on rooms rates. This is a four star resort that is located on the north west coast of Phuket.

The Patong Swiss Hotel has amazing 50% discounts which are valid until the end of April. The Resort is located at the southern end of Patong Beach.

If you are thinking off spending a few nights at Ko Phi Phi, there are also great deals on room rates.

The Phi Phi Casita Hotel is offering great deals, for a one night stay for two people including breakfast is just 1535 Baht, equivalent to AUS$49.00. We stayed here last year in one of the bungalows and can highly recommend it, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, located close to Loh Dalum beach, this Phi Phi resort also has its own swimming pool.

What’s on in Phuket in March 2011

The Thao Thepkasattri-Thao Sri Suntorn Festival also known as the Two Heroines Festival, is held to honour two heroic sisters Thao Thep Krasatri and Thao Sri Suntorn, who over 200 years ago rallied the people of Phuket to defend the island from Burmese troops.

The highlight of this festival is an open air play with a cast of over 700 actors. The play is about the bravery and leadership of the two sisters and the history of Phuket. This play caters for a Thai audience; however tourists are welcome to attend, but you will need to take along a translator, such as a good English speaking Tuk Tuk or taxi driver or ask you hotel reception about a translator for this event. The play runs for 3 nights starting from the 13th -15th March from 7.00 pm near the Heroines Monument in Thalang. The two week event is one of Phuket’s major festivals, apart from the play there are lots of cultural and sporting activities, including bicycle racing, volleyball tournaments played only with the feet, tug-o-war as well as a Buddhist ordination ceremony.

Phuket has many attractions and lots of fun activities available for visitors to see and do. If you are interested in scuba diving, Phuket Scuba Club offers a range of diving courses, daily dive tours and Liveaboard cruises around Burma and Thailand. Phuket Scuba Club offices can be found on the beach at the southern end of Karon Beach or opposite the Boathouse Hotel in Kata.
