What’s on in Phuket during December 2010 Monsoon Season is finally over and the seas are calm again, the weather is fantastic with temperatures around 31 to 33 degrees. If you are visiting Phuket during December there is the chance of the occasional thunderstorm.
December is a great time to visit Phuket, it is the peak of the tourist season and full of wonderful festivities and things to do. Just remember when travelling to Phuket from December through January, make sure that you book your accommodation in advance as thousands of people flock here for their Christmas break. What’s on in Phuket in December 2010 December the 5th is His Majesty the King’s birthday, which is one of the most exciting days of the year for Thais, and is a public holiday. The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, is held at Kata Beach from the 4th to the 11th of December. The Regatta is Asia’s largest and most famous regatta which is now in its 24th year and is celebrated both for its great sailing competitions and lively onshore social activities. The Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship is to be held on the 5th December. The race, set at Laguna Phuket Resort at Bang Tao Beach, will be the culmination of WTC's new Asia-Pacific Ironman 70.3 Event Series. The course includes a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run. From the 15th December head to Patong Beach for the Festival on the Sand this first ever 5 day festival will attract up to 10,000 party goers during the biggest beach party ever to be held on Phuket. Patong Carnival used to take place in November each year but for the past few years, the organizers have moved it to mid-December to avoid the chance of rain. This year the colourful carnival will be held from the 15th to the 20th December. There will be cultural and fun activities set up for this year’s celebrations such as colourful parades, beauty contests, stage performances and live music. Whilst you’re enjoying your holiday vacation in Phuket, there is no need to worry about missing your favourite sports on TV. Head to Duke’s Sports bar at Kata Beach where you will be able to enjoy a cold beer and popcorn and watch your chosen sport live on one of their big screens. You will be assured of a great time with Karen and Mark and their friendly staff. For cricket fans Dukes have just installed another satellite for their guests to watch the ashes cricket live. Duke's sports bar will be closed on the 5th December, in observance of the King's birthday - no alcohol sales are permitted.
